POLICE OFFICER (COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER)

Serves as Communications Dispatcher in the Communications Section (COMM), Command Division, Command and Coordination Bureau, Office of the Assistant Chief of Police for Uniformed Operations, United States Capitol Police (USCP). COMM is responsible for facilitating service calls and information using telecommunications equipment and automated systems to resolve a variety of issues and to ensure a response from the appropriate emergency service. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Answers, evaluates, and prioritizes incoming telephone calls to determine urgency and the need for dispatching police, fire, medical and other emergency services. * Disseminates emergency information to the USCP and the congressional community by using a Computer-Aided Dispatch system, telephones, multi-channel radios, telecommunication device for the deaf, numerous law enforcement and agency databases and automated map systems. * Monitors alarms and manages control and video security systems. * Operates and monitors intrusion detection, access control, Member duress calls, digital videos, closed-circuit television, and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance assessments. * Accesses databases for information, warrant checks, intelligence and driver's license and vehicle registration checks.

--Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant and have attained the rank of Private with Training. --Must have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement. --Must possess and maintain a valid US REAL ID driver's license. --Must successfully complete all required training.

There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.

The following selection process will be used to further assess candidates who have met the initial eligibility factors. Candidates must qualify under each phase to be considered in subsequent phases. Phase I: Initial Qualification - The OHR will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy announcement.

Phase II: KSA Assessment- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel including resume review. Phase III: Structured Interview - Candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview. Results of this selection process will be used to recommend candidates to the hiring manager who is the final selecting official.

The OHR will conduct a disciplinary action review to determine if there are pending investigatory and/or disciplinary matters, which will be made known to the selecting official. Prior to making their selection, the selecting official will review any available Department documents, to include application documents, and each candidate’s complete career disciplinary record, and results of selection process phases, and may, at their discretion, conduct interviews with all recommended candidates, if necessary. The selecting official may, at their discretion, not select a recommended candidate for reasons such as: 1.

Substandard performance; 2. Serious sustained misconduct; and/or

1. Pending investigatory and/or disciplinary matters as identified by the Office of Professional Responsibility. All aspects of the process are subject to the Department's legal review. All final recommendations are subject to final approval of the Chief of Police.

Successful completion of the 18-week Communication Operators Training Program which includes a one-week Shadow-Phase, as well as training in the Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) central database.

1. Must maintain all associated required certifications, including national certifications by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, WALES and NCIC.
2. Must maintain proficiency with radio and computer equipment, as well as security systems and related databases.
