Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Two years of practical management experience that the applicant has acquired basic knowledge of gymnastics, youth sports, fitness/athletic skills, experience in working with children. Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college or university in kinesiology, sports science or related field, preferred but not required OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above. Current, or able to obtain within 45 days of hire, nationally recognized certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED or equivalent.

Current, or able to obtain within 30 days of hire, USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, U101 Safety & Risk Management Certification, and U110 SafeSport & U100 Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Strong organizational skills, ability to lead others and work collaboratively. Exceptional customer focused skills to include ability to address participants¿ needs and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy; interpersonal skills to listen to and show respect for participants and colleagues. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.

Major Duties

NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Supervisory Recreation Specialist BUSINESS TITLE: Gymnastics Program Assistant Manager FLSA Status: Exempt JOB SERIES: 0188 PAY LEVEL: NF-03 INTRODUCTION: This position is located within the Gymnastics Program, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Division, Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Butler. The primary function of the position is to serve as an assistant manager for the gymnastics program, as well as follow skill sets, lesson plans and training for children and teens in order to stimulate youth to participate in and experience a variety of ongoing activities that will improve and maintain their physical well-being and promote good lifetime health maintenance skills. The program serves a diverse population of active duty, reserve, and retired military, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers, to include the local national community in and around the installation SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Assists in the day to day operations of a comprehensive installation gymnastics program.

Incumbent plans, supervises, administers and carries out a varying needs of the gymnastics program. Responsible for meeting established goals and effectively managing the resources of assigned programs. Monitors program on a regular basis and initiates corrective action as necessary.

Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies. Monitors programs on a regular basis, and initiates corrective action to ensure support of operating programs of MCCS. Adapts and enhances program activities as necessary.

Initiates coordination, scheduling, and publication of all events and ongoing activities, assuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and promoting participants and in providing a program responsive to the needs of all authorized participants. Assists the director in the training and managing of instructors, building and retaining student enrollment. Responsible for the supervision and safety of the gymnastics program staff.

Aids employees with suggestions, complaints, and other personnel matters. Informs subordinates of new methods of accomplishing assignments. Assists with lesson planning, rotation schedules and preschool/recreational class station set up.

Helps evaluate students¿ performance through skill tracking, monitoring of classes and communicating with coaching staff. Will teach gymnastics classes

in addition to substitute for coaches in the event that there is a need. Conducts screening of prospective staff. Supervises staff to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, training and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave; recommending personnel actions; completing performance reviews with the program director.

Must be alert to alcohol abuse and substance, and take appropriate action. Assists in ensuring all personnel are properly trained and maintain appropriate professional certifications. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.

Assists customers and communicates positively in a professional and friendly manner. Takes appropriate action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other duties as assigned. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required, while performing normal duties in the area. May perform work that poses physical demands beyond normal requirements.
