Visual Information Specialist (Graphic Designer)

Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Experience Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
Specialized experience: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-11 level, producing three-dimensional graphics and using computer-aided design software for an employer.
Major Duties
Iterates concepts and ideas through design cycles via presentation decks, mockups and prototypes. Establishes bespoke, standalone graphic systems for special exhibitions. Manages the design and production of all phases of assigned graphic design for special exhibitions, permanent collection installations, general building graphics, wayfinding, and signage throughout the campus and at off-campus locations.
Works collaboratively with exhibition teams to create innovative design solutions using creative typography, photo manipulation and file prep for large graphic installations. Responsible for creating and maintaining a graphics budgets related to assigned exhibition or project. Responsible for the research and development of samples and estimates for production of required exhibition graphics to include: banners, wall graphics and signage.
Responsible for the presentation of design concepts to stakeholders.
