About This Position

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Supervisory Statistical Assistant, 1531-7, FPL GS-8, positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: experience in the leading of work using statistical coding that may include reviewing completed work for accuracy, keeping supervisor informed of progress and ensuring that work is completed in a timely manner; performing statistical clerical work; providing training and instruction for others in statistical coding activities. Education cannot be substituted for the specialized experience at these grade levels.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Major Duties

This job opportunity is for a Supervisory Statistical Assistant position in the Geography Branch (GB), National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Census Bureau located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The incumbent serves as a supervisor with the responsibility of directing employees who perform various transcription/coding operations necessary to process NPC surveys.

This position is not included in the bargaining unit. The individual selected for this position will: Assign and review work on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; assure that production and accuracy requirements are met; approve leave and recommend performance standards; set and adjust short-term priorities; and prepare schedules for completion of work; Evaluate work performance of staff, hear and resolve complaints from employees, and effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warning and reprimands; Verify capabilities for coding application tools for various surveys; Serve as Technical Advisor for all coding operations; Direct technical discussions of staff and documents needed procedural changes and suggested changes.

How You Will Be Evaluated

Additional Information

Tour of Duty: Hours will be 7:00 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Positions may include shift work, evening or weekend work, hours will vary.
