About This Position

This position is part of the Office of Environment, Health, Safety, and Security, Department of Energy. As a Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, you will serve as Director, Office of Physical Security, Office of Headquarters Security Operations. In this capacity, supervise the DOE Headquarters physical security team of the Headquarters Physical Security Program.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following: Conducting analyses of physical security systems and procedures including evaluating physical access controls and protective force operations; AND Implementing organizational-wide physical security policies, ensuring their alignment with broader security objectives and regulatory requirements; AND Supervising or leading a team of security specialists. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Major Duties

The Office of Environment, Health, Safety, and Security office is responsible for health, safety, environment, and security; providing corporate-level leadership and strategic vision to coordinate and integrate these vital programs. As a Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, you will: Manage the DOE Headquarters-wide physical security activities, including access control, protective force, incident management, and intrusion detection. Supervise the Headquarters physical security team, assigning and directing work, and evaluating performance.

Ensure the physical security organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are integrated into team strategies and work products. Develop and implement Headquarters-wide physical security policies and procedures. Serve as a technical authority on physical security, providing expert consultation and participating in policy development and interagency study groups.

Keep current with new developments in physical security programs and policies, assessing vulnerabilities and preparing reports for senior officials.
