About This Position

This position is located at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department. The incumbent functions as the manager for the assigned Twin Pin Bowling Center & Snack Bar. The purpose of this position is to provide entertainment in the bowling facility for our military communities served.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess: A broad knowledge of facility and/or bowling program management with the skill and ability to provide supervision and leadership to staff. Must have the ability to deal effectively with subordinates, supervisory/managerial officials and patrons. Position requires a minimum of three years of documented work experience in facility program management and staff supervision that demonstrates progressive responsibility. A minimum of two years successful experience in a qualified bowling center and/or bowling related program is required. A minimum of one year documented supervisory/or assistant manager experience required.

Major Duties

Formulates instructions and directives necessary to operate a fluid, profit generating bowling center and assigned food service operation. Ensures the implementation of higher-level directives and regulations. Organizes, develops, implements and reviews programming, promotions, leagues and special events held at the facility to provide recreations service while still maintaining a positive image in community relations. Develops and manages leagues/tournaments and leagues/tournament services. Coordinates special functions and special events with the community and military representatives. Overseas the efficient and effective operation of the Twin Pin Bowling Center (6 lane center at NWS Yorktown) to include the operation of the snack bar and all recreation vending machines. Develops, implements, and reviews the facility assigned business plans, including budget, marketing, capital purchases and minor construction plans. Systematically provides and reviews financial management, personnel administration, property and internal control management to ensure compliance with policies, benchmarks, and standards. Briefs financial and operational plans and milestones are required and serves as the primary fund custodian for the facility, ensuring safe cash handling procedures are observed, the appropriate use of funds, ringing/verifying registers, issuing and checking change funds, preparation and/or oversight of Daily Activity Reports and deposits (DAR), and assisting with procurement requests, physical assets and/or resale/equipment/gear inventories. Monitors the procurement of all supplies, equipment, and retail items. Responsible for employee and safety patron safety and OSHA compliance while directing the day-to-day operation of the facility to ensure a safe and pleasurable environment for patrons, ensuring the cleanliness and good repair of the facility and reporting damages, mechanical, breakdowns or malfunctions, and reporting safety hazards to the appropriate authorities as necessary. Measures success in terms of profitability, patron usage, satisfaction, and mission accomplishment. Promotes, schedules, and manages the conduct of tournaments, matches and other special events and programs necessary resources for the purchase of supplies, equipment and resale merchandise. Carries out necessary liaison with other staff officials that support center activities, bowling league participation, marketing, purchasing, etc. Acts on internal and patron problems within established guidelines and with minimal adverse impact of operations.
