About This Position

About the Position: This position is part of the Youth Employment Program - Summer Hire Program that allows eligible DoD Family Members to gain insightful work experience during the summer season. You are required to show proof of enrollment in College for the Fall 2026 semester. Appointments will not exceed September 01, 2026.

Forces on active duty or a family member U.S.citizen civilian employee of a U.S. Government agency. An unmarried U.S.-citizen family member 14 through 23 years of age (including stepchild, adopted child, and child under the legal guardianship of sponsor or sponsor's spouse) AND Physically reside in the same household with your sponsor at the time of application (unless attending a college or university in the United States) and during employment.

Major Duties

Clerical duties are in an office environment and may include typing, filing, receptionist work, customer service and answering telephones.

Laborer duties are more physical in nature and may include working indoors/outdoors, light to moderate lifting, and yard work.

Summer Hire candidates may be placed in either Clerk or Laborer positions depending on availability of vacancies.

Education

You are required to show proof of enrollment in College for the Fall 2026 semester.

How You Will Be Evaluated

Once the announcement has closed, a review of your application package (resume, supporting documents, and responses to the questionnaire) will be used to determine whether you meet the qualification requirements listed on this announcement. Basis for Placement: Candidates will be selected in random order based on the OPM's Random Referral Procedures.

Organizations may request placement of a summer hire candidate who worked for them in the previous year's Summer Hire Program. All applications received by the closing date will be considered. Late applications will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants filing a late application must submit a written statement to their servicing HR Service Center which explains why the application was late.

Additional Information

Direct deposit of pay is required. U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement. Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area. Temporary positions are at the will of management.

You will be required to provide proof of eligibility which may include verification of family member status, social security or tax identification number, and a work permit, if required. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.

Summer Hire candidates will receive notification of their work assignment via email or phone once placements are made. Upon selection for Student Summer Hire Program, the applicant will receive an invitation via email to On-boarding Manager. Applicants are REQUIRED to log into the system within 72 hours of receiving the email and complete all required in-processing paperwork.

If this electronic paperwork is not completed prior to the start date of the Student Summer Hire Program, the application will not be able to participate in the Student Summer Hire Program. Changes to work assignments will not be permitted. Parental consent may be required.

Summer Hire candidates must be placed within the commuting area of their sponsor's duty station. Due to the length of the appointment, employees are not entitled to benefits such as; life insurance, retirement, health benefits, etc. Summer Hire employees are not permitted to operate forklifts; are not permitted to perform duties requiring use of a respirator; and do not clean latrines.

Program dates may not be adjusted to accommodate previously scheduled vacations/leave. This appointment is a Youth Employment Summer Hire position. Due to the length of the appointment employees are not entitled to benefits, such as annual leave, life insurance, retirement, health benefits, etc.
