About This Position

***THIS PUBLIC NOTICE COVERS ALL SUMMER HIRE STUDENT TRAINEE, GS-0599-04 POSITIONS FOR ALL TITLES*** The primary purpose of this position is to provide a Student Trainee in the Pathways Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance. Perform work involving the examination and processing of substantiating documents to effect the payment of active duty, reserve, and/or retired service members as well as annuitants, and to perform office automation duties.

(Contact the location/installation as indicated in the How to Apply section of this announcement on how to submit your resume and application package) Qualifications: You must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution for all grades, at the time of application submission (proof of enrollment and a copy of transcripts are required) GS-04: Education: One year of general experience for GS-0599-03 level positions. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR Education: Completion of 2 academic year of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (You must submit a copy of transcripts) OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a body of standardized military pay rules, regulations, laws, allowances, and procedures; the data system(s) used to support military pay actions; and federal debt collection rules and regulations. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required. Skill in performing arithmetic computations to compute military pay. Ability to interpret/apply regulations and procedures related to military pay; and to operate a calculator. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Major Duties

Determines, processes, and follows-up on standard active, reserve, retired, and/or annuitant pay entitlement actions. Reviews pay accounts to resolve recurring or recent pay problems. Receives and processes indebtedness actions against military members. Performs miscellaneous technical tasks in support of military pay actions. Provides customer service in person or by telephone, and completes correspondence related to standardized military pay rules, regulations, laws, procedures, or operations. Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc. pertaining to the military pay function.

This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide transcripts or Official Letter of Enrollment to support your educational claims.
