About This Position

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command. It is in the Administrative Support Work Category at the Entry/Developmental Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA PC51.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: To qualify at the 04 - Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. To qualify at the 05 - Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. To qualify at the 07 - Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

Per OPM - Student Trainee Requirements for initial appointment - The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.

Major Duties

The incumbent of this position is a Student Trainee in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) developmental program within the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

The trainee will make direct application of varied rules, procedure, and precedents to their assignments.

Specific tasks are assigned to provide experience in practical application of computer engineering theory and basic principles.

Engineering trainees receive specific instructions on the manuals to use, procedures to follow, and the end product to be obtained.

Education

To qualify at the 04 - Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. To qualify at the 05 - Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. To qualify at the 07 - Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Additional Information

The duration of a student trainee/ intern appointment is a trial period. Upon successful completion of their academic program and the Internship program, interns may be converted to a permanent position in the excepted service consistent with agency needs, academic achievement, and demonstrated potential. Conversion potential for this opportunity is a GG-0855-9/11/12 up to the full performance level of GG-13.

However, future budgetary events, hiring restrictions, conversion caps, or other events may preclude the conversion or conversion to a position with the full potential performance level. Individuals converted to a position in the competitive service may be subjected to participation in an agency formal development program. Management may select at any grade level advertised in this announcement and promotion is not guaranteed.
