Major Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for a Special Security Officer (NH-0080-04, GS 14/15 equivalent). Description: Space Systems Command seeks a dynamic Supervisory Security Specialist to serve as the Special Security Officer at Los Angeles Air Force Base. In this vital role, you will lead a team of security professionals, direct the SCI Security Program, and act as the organization's technical authority, providing critical oversight for the nation's most advanced space acquisition programs to protect sensitive assets and ensure mission integrity.

The Supervisory Security Specialist is a strategic leader with expert knowledge of special security policies and a proven ability to manage and inspire a team.

You must possess exceptional communication, negotiation, and analytical skills to resolve complex security challenges. A Top Secret/SCI security clearance is mandatory for this Testing Designated Position (TDP), and you will be required to obtain specific DoW security certifications within two years of appointment. The ideal candidate will have extensive security experience within the Department of War (DoW) and the Intelligence Community, with expert-level knowledge of Special Security and SCI program policies.

Proven supervisory experience is required, including managing personnel, information, and physical security, as well as supporting DoW contractors (e.g., handling DD Form 254s). The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance is mandatory. Possession of DoW certifications-such as the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC), Security Asset Protection Professional Certification (SAPPC), and Special Program Security Certification (SPSC) is highly advantageous, as these are required within two years of appointment.

  5. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determines resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
  6. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.
