About This Position
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as a Small Arms Repairer (Armorer), responsible to the Supervisory General Supply Specialist, Law Enforcement Division under the Directorate of Emergency Services.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair of small arms, making diagnosis and locating mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, carbine rifles, and other small arms and accessories. I am skilled in disassembling weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components, examine for defects, mechanical misalignment and malfunctions; replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies; modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies.
Use hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments; apply acids and/or other "bluing" or finishing agents; test fire and make operational checks of repaired weapons to assure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT - Lifts items up to or over 50 pounds alone or with mechanical device.
Requires standing, crouching, bending and working for prolonged periods in cramped positions. Employee is subject to noise while using various tools and machinery in the repair and maintenance of the small arms and while working on the Weapons Range from small arms fire. WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is performed primarily inside.
Incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Both inside and outside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. Typically works on parts and systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy.
Is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Exposed to grease, oil and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal.
Is often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. Is exposed to loud noises and muzzle blasts when observing or participating in test firing of weapons. Uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, and hard toe shoes.
Major Duties
Perform a full range of work involved in the disassemble, repair, replace parts, clean, reassemble a variety of automatic and manual weapons.
Maintain and repair various types of small arms weapons which have unusual operation principles or critical operation tolerances.
Perform a wide variety of duties associated with weapons security and accountability, records management, report preparation, supply and maintenance.
Responsible for maintaining arms room hand receipts, account for and control all weapons, ammunition and repair parts in the arms room.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest. Student loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized.
Credit for Prior Non-Federal Work Experience and Certain Military Service for Determining Annual Leave Accrual Rate may be authorized. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be authorized. Incentives are not automatic and are based on eligibility and availability of funds.
