About This Position

Primarily assigned to the Midshipmen Store, the Retail Department Manager works closely with Retail Managers and the NABSD Inventory Manager to ensure daily operations are conducted professionally and are aligned with various goals set by senior leadership. The incumbent is directly involved in the formulation and execution of departmental long-range goals and objectives, day to day guidance of sales associates and all special evolutions in support of the Brigade of Midshipmen.

Qualifications

In order to meet the basic requirement of the Retail Department Manager position, NF-1101-03, you must meet one of the following requirements: a)Possess one (1) year of specialized experience in a retail role that equipped you to perform successfully the duties of this position. Specialized experience may include, but is not limited to: Managerial experience, procurement of merchandise for resale, retail experience; OR b)Five (5) years of education beyond high school; OR c)Have three (3) years of general work experience.

YOU WILL BE RATED ON THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) FOR THIS POSITION: Experience in retail management. Experience in the procurement of merchandise for resale is preferred. Experience leading and training employees, positively affecting employee morale, teamwork, and customer service.

Skill and experience in analyzing reports and inventory levels, communicating findings, and making recommendations to rectify issues. Experience and proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Point of Sale (POS). Experience managing inventory, implementing Open to Buy inventory planning strategies, and analyzing on hand inventory levels and sales stock ratios.

Major Duties

Identifies potential departmental merchandise for the retail outlet and/or area assigned. Attends Tradeshows and uses various other resources to find merchandise desired by our patrons. Works closely with NABSD's Inventory Manager and assigned Analysts to ensure inventory investments are efficient and meet patron needs without diminishing profitability.

Analyzes on hand inventory levels, on-order inventory, sales stock ratios, sales and inventory budgets for thepast 3-9-month period, and then selects and schedules the merchandise mix (sales and inventory) for the next 3-9-month period. Monitors the open order file monthly and initiates corrective follow-up action, as required, to ensure the proper merchandise mix to produce the budgeted sales and profit for the department and store. Establishes and verifies selling prices of procured merchandise for the department and store.

Directs and supervises the visual merchandising approved for the department by senior leadership. Responsible for stock control and accountability of Departmental and Store merchandise; updates merchandise records as inventory is depleted and as new merchandise is received. Works closely with inventory and warehouse personnel on manufacturer deliveries, merchandise breakouts, and maintaining accurate store Point of Sale (POS) data-- including shelf-life to avoid unnecessary stock shrinkage.

Ensures that a proper inventory balance is maintained to produce the budgeted sales and profit while maintaining a minimum inventory investment to satisfy customer demand; continually monitors sales, inventory budgets, sales stock ratios, current sales and inventory trends and initiates corrective action as required. Responsible for the accuracy of the store Point of Sale (POS) computer system for Departmental and Store merchandise Provides improvement recommendations to management. Trains and supervises Sales Associates; evaluates job performance, handles grievances and makes recommendations for disciplinary action; sets priorities on work schedule for subordinates.

Ensures outstanding customer service is provided. Supervises and participates in the receipt of all merchandise ensuring 100% accountability is maintained at all times; ensures SKU numbering, item description, and retail/cost price entered in the POS system are accurate. Maintains a thorough understanding of the merchandise carried to make recommendations to customers.

Directs and participates in the maintenance of housekeeping and merchandising standards of the department. Packs boxes, works issue stations fitting clothing, check-in/out and processing midshipmen through sales store terminals as necessary. Supervises other employees as necessary in order to accomplish the mission.

Physical demands include walking, standing, stairs, lifting and carrying boxes up to 40 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned.
