About This Position
This position is located within Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties in support of the Sailing/Marina program. This position is located on Naval Station Norfolk base.

A qualified candidate must possess: Must possess knowledge of boating terminology, operation, maintenance, water and boating safety, and handling of boats (launching, mooring, etc.) with a minimum of one year related work experience in a marina environment. Ability to handle small powerboats in light to moderate conditions. Skill in the use of basic hand tools to perform minor maintenance and repair. Must be a mature individual with documented leadership abilities, who can exercise control over groups of people to ensure good order and discipline as necessary. Must possess fluent command of the English language and be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Must be skilled in customer service techniques, tact and good judgment.
Major Duties
Rigs ferry and safety boats, ensuring they are properly fueled and clean each morning and secured at end of day. Ferry's patrons and equipment to and from moored fishing boats and operates safety boats during training sessions, regattas or other on-the-water activities. Assists patrons with pulling boats to and from their storage rack and carrying hulls to the floating dock, launching, dock approach, mooring, pump out station and fueling of boats. Performs minor maintenance, which may include, but is not limited to changing batteries, scraping and cleaning boat bottoms, painting, varnishing boats, repairing piers and decking and replacing floats as necessary.Tows disabled boats to assigned slips or dock. Circulates among patrons to assist with basic boating needs and maintain order. Monitors dock, checking for improperly tied boats, retying as needed to prevent loss or damage to boat or dock, insurance, registration and adherence to marina policies. Warns patrons of disorderly behavior or unsafe techniques or practices being utilized. Attempts to resolve problems in a tactful, diplomatic manner. May be required to tactfully remove disrupting patrons from the facility. Inspects Marina daily to ensure area is clan and free from debris and other hazards. Performs basic cleaning duties to maintain a constant and clean working area and ensure all current sanitation requirements are followed and maintained. Sweeps, dry mops floors/docks; washes walls, windows, and blinds and other surfaces and replaces light bulbs as needed. Maintains restrooms, bath and laundry houses ensuring they are clean, orderly and sanitary at all times, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls. Replenishes bathroom tissue, hand towels, and soap. Notifies supervisor when cleaning supplies are needed and reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisor for corrective action. May serve as duty manager in the absence of management to ensure the facility is function in a smooth, safe and efficient manner. This includes servicing as point of contact to assigned subordinate staff, assuring task are in process/complete, providing necessary supplies and resolving minor problems and complaints of the employees. Performs other related duties related to this position as assigned.
