About This Position

About the Position: This is a full-time, temporary civilian faculty position at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) Department of Distance Education as provided under Title 10 USC. Appointment for one year, renewable up to three years based upon job performance and funding availability. Potential for academic rank will be based on the selectee's academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments.

Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a temporary appointment in the excepted service starting on or before 1 July 2026 and not to exceed 1 year. Appointment may be extended to three years based on the needs of the organization. As an employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision.

You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave. Basic Requirements: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as instructional systems, learning design, or educational psychology.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following: SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): 1. Must possess a degree in instructional design, or related field. Current doctoral students are encouraged to apply; candidates with an earned Ph.D. upon employment are strongly preferred.

  1. Demonstrated experience in the design, development, and assessment of online education. Recent experience using learning management systems and online educational tools preferred.
  2. Demonstrated ability to communicate through writing, oral presentations, and online collaboration.
  3. Evidence of scholarly research and publications in areas relevant to curriculum design, faculty development, educational methodology, or online learning technology.

Major Duties

Support the design, development, and execution of online curriculum for the Department of Distance Education.

Provide counsel to faculty and staff on instructional design and educational methodology.

Coordinate and support assessment tracking, certification/accreditation requirements, and faculty development for the department.

Engage in research and publishable scholarship that advances knowledge in curriculum design, faculty development, educational methodology, or online learning technology.

Contribute to the Department of Distance Education and the Army War College mission by fulfilling other duties as required.
