Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS 14 , if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the 13 grade level in the Federal service, military, or private sector: Applying advance AI (Artificial Intelligence) and data fusion methodologies to automate battle-space data collection, reduce war-fighter cognitive burden, and deliver actionable intelligence for mission preparation and sustainment in Chemical and Biological (CB) contested environments Developing technical objectives, providing, and evaluating alternatives for achieving objectives, preparing technical and fiscal program plans Interpreting and translating end user requirements into technical specifications that can be used for soliciting science and technology research Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1301, series as listed below: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Major Duties
As a PHYSICAL SCIENTIST at the GS-1301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as a subject matter expert for all aspects and phases of Science and Technology related to the development of software applications spanning basic research (BA1) through prototype development (BA3). Provides an advanced understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and data fusion techniques required to automate battlespace data collection and reduce cognitive burden to provide actionable intelligence to ensure the warfighter can prepare for, operate, and sustain missions within chemical and biological (CB) contested environments. Identifies and translates customer requirements into technical objectives, provides and evaluates alternatives for achieving objectives, prepares technical and fiscal program plans.
Provides expertise to the RD-CBEI Information Sciences Branch Chief and the RD-CBE Division Director in the area of physical sciences to include concepts, principles, and practices of physical chemistry, physics, or related environmental sciences as they apply to chemical and biological threat agents. Interprets and translates end user requirements into technical specifications that can be used to solicit science and technology research.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Other Notes: ACQUISITION POSITION: This is an Acquisition Workforce position in the Engineering and Technical management functional area. The incumbent will be required to become certified in the Practitioner tier within 5 years. The incumbent is required to acquire a minimum of 40 continuous learning points (CLPs) every fiscal year as a goal and 80 CLPs being mandatory within 2 years.
