About This Position

This position is in the Network Engineering and Operations Directorate within House Information Resources (HIR), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives. The directorate supports reliable connectivity to the House Data Network for the House Campus, more than 820 District Offices, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery sites and mobile capabilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience managing Cisco LAN networks Hold a bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent work experience. Required skills include configuring Layer 2 switches (2960s, 9200s, 9400s, 9500s, and 6500s) understanding DHCP scope management performing remote configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco switches. The candidate must also have strong knowledge of network management tools and routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, TCP/IP, and IEEE 802.x Ethernet.

A basic understanding of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Additionally, the candidate should be able to configure and troubleshoot (support) Aruba wireless access points. Remedy CTS experience Preferred Qualifications: Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA) are highly preferred. Physical Requirements/ Work Environment The selected candidate must be available for 24/7 on-call emergency support.

Major Duties

Job Summary: The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 800 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This position is located in the Network Engineering and Operations (Networking) Directorate, House Information Resources (HIR), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The Networking Directorate provides operational support services to the House that ensure reliable and dependable connectivity to the House Data Network both on the House Campus and to over 820 District Offices as well as numerous Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) sites, facilities, and mobile capabilities.

This position serves as the Network Communication Specialist. The Campus Data Network (CDN) team is responsible for the maintenance, deployment, relocation, and decommissioning of Cisco switches and wireless network infrastructure supporting the offices of House Members of Congress on Capitol Hill. In election years, the team manages a higher volume of office transitions due to the departure of outgoing members and the onboarding of newly elected freshman members.

Key responsibilities include evaluating, implementing, configuring, and maintaining communications technology in support of the House; participating in systems analyses and feasibility studies on House communications infrastructure; developing and testing prototype configurations and communication interfaces; monitoring network fault and performance; troubleshooting and resolving network problems; and installing and implementing designs and changes. Primary Duties: Daily switch configuration, troubleshooting, and operational support, along with various tasks required to maintain and sustain the Campus Data Network (CDN). The candidate will coordinate CDN installations across Capitol Hill and ensure smooth deployment of network services.

The role requires clear and consistent communication with Members’ office staff and a strong commitment to exceptional customer service. Additional duties include configuring Cisco-based network equipment. Performs other official duties as assigned.

The position does not have day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.
