About This Position

THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This ND National Guard position is for a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR, Position Description Number D1907000 and is part of the ND USPFO, National Guard.

Qualifications

This information is needed to determine if you are qualified for the position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess 24 months of specialized experience or training which includes: 1) Ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches; 2) Working knowledge in evaluating the condition and load limits, in scheduling weigh points, and in accessing traffic conditions and hazards; 3) Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades; and 4) Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.

Current Commercial Driver's License is preferred.

Major Duties

As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will transport supplies and equipment intra and inter State using a variety of wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers or to tow or recover equipment. Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks and/or truck tractors with semi-trailers which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds. Maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles at loading docks.

Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material, including manual turn in and issue documents. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles and trailers. Prepares and submits requests for over-dimensional permits to Defense Movement Coordinator (DMC) for military movement involving military vehicles and through the Commercial Transportation Branch for non-military vehicles.
