Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification requirements listed below. Selective Placement Factor(s): 1.) This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified.

Must be able to operate a forklift in a warehouse environment to be considered eligible for this position. This experience must be documented in you work history/experience blocks on your resume. 2.) To meet additional training requirements, as a "condition of employment", you must complete the following training within 90 days from the entry on duty date and additionally every three years of employment: Hazmat Shipping and Handling

In addition to the requirements described above, the following additional experience is required. Only experience and education obtained by 07/08/2026 will be considered. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator (Wildland Fire Dozer) without more than normal supervision. Work is defined as: having experience working in warehouse with work related to refurbishment of preservation of equipment and supplies. IMPORTANT - PLEASE

Physical Demands: This position performs work on hard surfaces and in areas that require frequent standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts and carries parts, equipment, and packed containers that weigh up to 45 pounds on a recurring basis.

The heavier items are moved with weight-handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The incumbent is required to be available to work long hours on short notice and be available for duty on nights, weekends, and holidays Working Conditions: This position typically works in well-lit, heated, and ventilated areas. The incumbent occasionally works outside or in areas that are drafty and poorly lit.

The work is sometimes dusty, dirty and greasy. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. When handling certain chemicals or petroleum products, the incumbent may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals.

The incumbent is required to wear protective clothing, respirators, and other specialized protective devices,

in addition to basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, and earplugs).

Major Duties

As a Materials Handler (Wildland Fire) your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Receives and stores a wide variety of NFES wildland fire materials (equipment and supplies), to include new, refurbished, and hazardous products. Assembles and/or makes basic or limited repairs to wildland fire supply kits from individual components according to NFES standards. Assists in evaluating and monitoring stock levels and turnover rates to ensure adequate supplies in primary warehouses by coordinating item transfers from secondary warehouses and temporary staging areas.

Independently examines and identifies the condition of a wide variety of NFES wildland fire materials (equipment and supplies). Packs, labels, and ships a wide variety of NFES wildland fire materials (equipment and supplies) according to national standard packaging requirements and in accordance with applicable operating procedures, business practices, Operates forklifts, stock pickers, stake-bed trucks, enclosed box vans, cargo vans, and various types of banding and packaging equipment.

Conditions of Employment

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. Direct Deposit Required.

This position requires the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties. Selectee must hold and maintain a valid state driver's license throughout their employment in this position. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Subject to frequent extended travel up to 25% of the time, particularly during fire season, and you must obtain a government charge card for travel.
