About This Position

Performs general laundry support under routine supervision, including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, pressing, transporting linens, and maintaining a clean work area. Follows standard procedures and oral instructions while working as part of a team. Requires repetitive hand movements, eye-hand coordination, standing, walking, and lifting/pushing up to 50 lbs. Works in hot, humid, noisy conditions. No experience required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: No experience required. Must be able to follow simple oral instructions.

Major Duties

DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed for compliance with instructions and standards of production and quality. Supervisory assistance is readily available for matters of a non-routine nature. MAJOR DUTIES: Performs work in support of the in-house laundry operation.

Gathers and moves handcarts of bulk laundry consisting of soiled linen or laundry items to the washroom. Sorts laundry by type and fabric and assists in the loading and unloading of items into or out of washing machines and dryers. Shakes out tangled, semidry items for flatware ironing or hand-feeding into automatic spreader.

Folds and stacks ironed flatware. Operates press and delivers as required. Maintains cleanliness of laundry area. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have the ability to perform repetitive type movements, follow oral instructions and read signs.

Duties require the ability to work with others in a team effort. Eye-hand coordination is necessary to feed items into flat work iron or automatic spreader. RESPONSIBILITY: Oral instructions are provided about how the work should be done and the incumbent is responsible for following instructions and complying with standard methods and procedures on production and quality.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required standing and walking on hard surfaces with some bending, lifting, pushing and pulling of carts weighing up to 50 pounds. Most tasks require quick hand and arm movements and the handling of items weighing as much as 10 pounds to 20 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in areas that are noisy, hot and humid.

Exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors in the washing area.

Additional Information

This is a limited tenure position not to exceed 15 months. It is an unaccompanied program because we cannot provide logistical support to family members. Dorm-style housing is provided in lieu of a living quarters allowance.

Transportation to and from Germany is provided in accordance with the terms of the Joint Travel Regulation and the executed transportation agreement. Military spouses and family members currently residing within the Garmisch Military Community who apply under this announcement will be considered for a regular appointment.
