About This Position

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ITSPEC (NETWORK/CUSTSPT), Position Description Number D2182P01 and is part of the CO 140 CS, National Guard.

This position is responsible for providing voice, data, wireless, Communications Focal Point (CFP) and information security services provided to the Wing, supported Geographically Separated Units, and Tenants.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-2 thru E-7 Please advise: 1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position.

You will be immediately disqualified if you fail to include specialized experience in your resume. Must have at least 12 months of experience in each of the following for the GS-09: 1. Experience receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations.

  1. Experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing.
  2. Experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing.
  3. Experience in at least one programming language.
  4. Experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow.
  5. Experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system.
  6. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment.
  7. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. Must have at least 12 months of experience in each of the following for the GS-11

in addition to the above: 1. Experience that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization.

  1. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls.
  2. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment.
  3. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Major Duties

Manages the assigned IT/communications environment with privileged access at the network level for the Wing, Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and Tenants. Serves as a focal point for ensuring functionality and operability of the assigned IT/data systems/functions, voice and wireless systems to support mission requirements of Wing, Geographically Separated Units (GSU), and Tenants. Provides customer technical assistance and support for all users.

Determines customer requirements and assists customers by recognizing and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services. Conducts feasibility studies to identify and analyze system failures and analyzes data to determine if trends exist which forecast the need for future replacement or modification of system hardware and software. Coordinates frequency needs with command level spectrum management office to maintain current allocations and obtain new authorizations.

Installs, maintains, and repairs hardware devices supporting a broad range of information and communications systems. Adheres to management control plan requirements by conducting self inspection and staff assistance visits. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience - For the GS-5 level, a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirements. At the GS-7 level, one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. At the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D.

equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Per ARNG-HRH Policy Memorandum #10-39, mandatory Full Time Staff (FTS) training is required within a year of hire as a condition of employment in vacancy announcements for both Technician and Active Guard Reserve positions. Failure of new FTS personnel to complete NGB prescribed courses at PEC within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment to other full time positions or termination of their employment.
  3. Current COANG Technicians and AGRs hired for a position in which an MCR is required will remain in their current status unless/until the MCR is approved. In the event the MCR is not approved, they are accepting the position in their current status.
