About This Position

THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTARNG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the CTARNG.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience, education, or training in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system.

Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and skill in applying systems administration methods and procedures and performance monitoring methods sufficient to schedule, monitor and verify the integrity of systems installation, backups, recovery and security.

Knowledge of and skill in applying systems administration methods and procedures sufficient to install server upgrades, schedule maintenance downtime such that it minimizes the adverse impact on the users and to recognize and refer the more complex problems to a higher-graded specialist. Knowledge of system performance monitoring software and procedures to monitor system performance, peak usage times, etc. Knowledge of overall system software, hardware and networking to recognize interrelationships within area of responsibility sufficient to report, respond to, and resolve the less complex customer requests.

Knowledge of and skill in applying systems security principles and procedures along with analytical reasoning sufficient to correct security vulnerabilities in response to problems identified in vulnerability reports. Knowledge of network configuration techniques, computer equipment and assigned system software to determine source of failure. Knowledge of and skill in using system software, IT security principles and functional application software used throughout the state.

Knowledge of how the hardware, software and network infrastructure relates to the serviced systems along with and understanding of how the integrate together sufficient to analyze problems reported and to distinguish among hardware, software, network and user-related problems. Knowledge of computer systems and information transmission systems standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot hardware and software components. Knowledge of computer systems installed in customer organizations along with the customer's automation needs to participate in the planning and delivery of a full range of IT customer support services.

Knowledge of methods and procedures for documenting problem analysis and resolutions sufficient to maintain records of activities. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection.

The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Appointment): Enlisted E-1 through E-6 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is covered under the Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program and requires Information Assurance (IA) Technical Level I Certification. IA Baseline Certification is required within 6 months of assignment to the position.

Employee will be required to maintain certification status and complete continuous education, or sustainment training as required by certification. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may results in removal from this position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.

Major Duties

This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander. JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to serve as a systems administrator of assigned systems maintained/administered by the organization. The incumbent is responsible for the installing, testing, system security configuration and monitoring, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware and software.

The position will also serve as a member of a team of systems administrators receiving guidance from the team leader. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to: Serves as a systems administrator for the less complex systems involving a limited number of servers operating on a single operating system. Interacts with peers and vendors to resolve hardware and software problems. Participates in the analysis of requests for new or modified applications.

Provides systems support on personal computer, mini-computers or main frames. Assists in security management to ensure only authorized (personnel) access to computer systems.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. (Education must be in one of -or- be a combination of the following required disciplines: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks). FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Additional Information

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
