Qualifications
GS-12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional industrial hygienist, developing criteria, procedures, or instructions to resolve problems involving health hazards to ensure compliance with applicable regulations for the occupational health and safety of shipyard personnel. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: responsibility for programs where workers are exposed to the wide variety of hazards including; chemical, physical, biological; conducting industrial hygiene sampling using; photoionization detectors, gas detectors, air sampling pumps, noise dosimetry, velocity meters, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation monitors, or other state of the art monitoring equipment.
GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-9) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional industrial hygienist, conducting surveys or investigations of shipyard work operations to identify and evaluate conditions that may be hazardous to the occupational health and safety of personnel. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include conducting surveys or investigations of the following: Chemical exposures and/or overexposures; Noise exposures and/or overexposures; Equipment and/or machine operations; Environmental conditions; Work practices; and Protective equipment.
GS-9: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-7) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Industrial Hygienist, performing surveys, sampling, and writing technical reports to evaluate health hazards in industrial shops or similar areas where the types of health hazards are anticipated. Examples may include the following: Chemical exposures and/or overexposures; Noise exposures and/or overexposures and Protective equipment.
GS-7: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-5) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Industrial Hygienist, calibrating equipment, taking samples, and preparing reports to assist with the evaluation of health hazards in industrial shops or similar areas workplaces where the types of health hazards are known. Examples may include the following: Chemical exposures and/or overexposures; Noise exposures and/or overexposures and Protective equipment.

Major Duties
You will effectively manage two or more major occupational health programs, such as asbestos, hearing conservation, paint, respiratory protection, toxic metals or ventilation.
You will prepare and issue procedures, instructions and other guidance concerning industrial health programs and related stressors.
You will plan, direct or conduct detailed surveys and investigations related to the recognition, evaluation and control of industrial health hazards for specific programs.
You will be a professional liaison with the industrial hygienists of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Command and other Naval Shipyards to coordinate efforts to implement industrial health protections of the Shipyard workforce.
You will conduct inspections of worksites to observe work practices and environmental conditions for hazards to health and safety, and to detect violations of published health standards.
You will evaluate the adequacy of controls for health hazards in initial and final plans and specifications for facility construction, alteration and repair, as well as modification or relocation of processes.
Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; OR Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH)). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience for the grade levels listed below: GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D.

equivalent doctoral degree OR Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.
OR
equivalent degree OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience GS-9: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience GS-7: Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement OR Successful completion of 1 year of graduate level education.

Salary Information: GS-07: $58,428-$74,233 GS-09: $71,470-$90,806 GS-11: $82,218-$105,613 GS-12: $95,994-$124,031 Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Pay retention may be granted when certain conditions are met.
A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at any grade level listed.
