About This Position
USAG Alaska runs full-throttle all year long, powered by the state's bold seasonal shifts. In this dynamic dual-season role, the incumbent takes charge as Golf Course Superintendent in the summer, leading all maintenance and course upkeep operations at the Chena Bend Golf Course. When winter rolls in, the position transitions to the Recreation Specialist (Facility Manager), overseeing the maintenance and mechanical operations of the Birch Hill Ski and Snowboard Area.
Qualifications

Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: Work experience performing the duties described above, including maintaining, repairing, and managing the condition of the entire playing area. Ability to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Pest Management Certificate. Working knowledge of the chemicals used to control insects, weeds, and brush on the golf course.
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess at least three years of experience managing turf grass in a Northern climate, including tasks such as snow mold applications and covering greens for winter conditions. Possess experience restoring turf grass following extended snow coverage, including recovery after the course has been closed for a minimum of 3-6 months. Currently a GCSAA Class A member, or the ability to obtain GCSAA Class A status within six months of employment.
Possess experience performing snow removal operations on a golf course. Posses experience grooming cross-country ski trails using golf course equipment or golf cart paths. Possess experience performing golf course maintenance in an arctic environment.
Major Duties
Responsible for the maintenance, repair and condition of the entire playing area of the golf course.
Direct and supervise subordinate employees in phases of course maintenance to include mowing, fertilizing and maintaining tees, fairways, greens, and roughs.
Supervises the cleaning, painting and general repair of buildings, fences, bridges, and shelters directly affecting golf play to include the completion of general landscaping projects.

Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will be paid, contingent upon eligibility. Current COLA rate is 1.49% and is subject to change without notice.
Incentives and Bonuses Incentives may be paid, but are not guaranteed. Up to 25% recruitment or relocation and/or retention incentive may be paid (service agreement required). Recruitment incentives are applicable to newly hired individuals/rehired individuals.
Relocation incentives are applicable to current, regular full-time NAF employees.
