About This Position

Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, & Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging & food & beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military & civilian employees.

This position is located at the Kegler's Grill aboard Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, WA. Employee may contribute to special events for the Naval Air Station both on & off premise. Internal Only

Qualifications

A qualified candidate possesses the following: Knowledge and understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures.

Knowledge of techniques for measuring ingredients and basic understanding of recipe construction. Knowledge of basic arithmetic in order to count the number of table sand serving bowls required to determine the number of servings a container will yield. Working knowledge of diet principles.

Working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination, such as the need to clean equipment previously used for raw food before further use and the need to use a chemical sanitizer or maintain proper water temperature when cleaning dishes. Skill to perform tasks involving several procedures. Skill to overcome practical production problems, evaluate final food products, and initiate corrective action when an item does not meet established quality standards.

Skill to develop standardized recipes for quantity cooking; able to expand and modify recipes according to the capacity of the equipment in the kitchen as well and in response to adjustments in the number of servings required. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skill.

Major Duties

Prepares and bakes a variety of pizzas from prepared ingredients, selecting the correct amount of each ingredient for the pizza ordered, arranging and layering the ingredients as shown. Prepared sandwiches, including Italian sausage, meatball and submarines. Performs tasks such as grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, french fries, etc., by watching while the items are cooking, turning as required; regulating temperature and removing when done.

Packages prepared food for off-premise consumption or serves for on premise consumption. Operates and uses bake and holding ovens, pizza makers, slicers, fryers and miscellaneous kitchen utensils. Rings up sales on a cash register and makes changes.

Counts and turnes in change funds and daily receipts. Maintains concept environment, equipment, utensils and surfaces in a sanitary clean and neat condition. In food preparation or food beverage service areas: Scrapes and pre-rinses dishes, glasses and flatware for washing.

Separates food waste and trash. Loads dishes into dishwasher; hand washes dishes. Stacks and stores clean dishes. Scrapes, cleans, scrubs, washes or wipes ranges, ovens, fryers and urns. Cuts, scrapes, chops, dices or peels fruit and vegetables.

Removes soiled dishes, glasses and flatware from tables and carries to the dish washing area. Cleans tables or paper, other trash or soiled linens and wipes table clean. Performs other duties as assigned.

H.S. Diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of National Agency Check (NACI) background check with written inquiries is required. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Must be able to use simple kitchen equipment and use common utensils.

Must be able to operate a cash register. Must be able to follow food recipes and combine ingredients for pizza, salads, and other menu items. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support business needs and schedule will vary.

Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, constantly standing and walking, and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds. This application may be used to fulfill additional vacancies within sixty days of certificate issuance.
