Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Fall College Interns (Student Volunteer), at GS-0099-00, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below. Basic Qualifications: To be eligible for this internship ALL the following requirements must be met: Student Status: You must be considered in good academic standings by the school, and be a second or third-year Law Student in the Fall 2026 to serve as interns in the Dallas and Fort Worth locations. Grade Point Average: You must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
Citizenship: Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States). Volunteer Agreement: All interns are required to sign the Participant Agreement. Qualification requirements as outlined below.
Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. There is a required background check because of the sensitive nature of the work performed by our office. The U.S.
Attorney's office is a Drug Free workplace, and a drug test may be conducted during the background investigation.

Major Duties
The Northern District of Texas is offering internship opportunities in its Dallas and Fort Worth offices for the 2026 Fall Semester for current students pursuing a Juris Doctor Degree and have completed either their first or second year of law school (be a second or third-year Law Student in Fall 2026). Selected candidates will be assigned work from the criminal, appellate and civil divisions. Our goal is to introduce law students to the federal system and litigation involving the United States.
We strive to assist students in developing their legal research and writing skills. Students will perform legal research and writing; draft various pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents; and assist with witness preparation, depositions, and hearings or trials. Students will also be provided with several opportunities to meet members of the judiciary, representatives of various federal agencies, and to participate in substantive programs to familiarize them with the federal legal system.
The Criminal Division may give students an opportunity to work on a wide variety of practice areas, including narcotics, public corruption, healthcare fraud, cybercrimes, terrorism, and other federal crimes. Within the Civil Division, students may work in a wide variety of defensive and affirmative litigation, including employment discrimination, medical malpractice, general torts, constitutional torts, immigration, prisoner litigation, commercial, financial, and civil fraud. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Education
You must submit a copy of your transcripts or enrollment/acceptance letter. Current Unofficial transcripts or proof of current enrollment, i.e. recent letter from the registrar's office, will be accepted in the application package. If you do not submit a transcript indicating your current enrollment status or acceptance status, you will not be considered for this position. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
