Qualifications

Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently performs a full range of advanced CT exams; advises medical Imaging staff, radiologists and referring physicians regarding patients and imaging examinations; completes routine and urgent radiographic exams; manages and operates a local area and extended data communications network including installation and testing of Image Archive and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Functions , CR and DR hardware, multiple modality connections, components, cable, and software. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (in the few instances this is necessary/appropriate): Registered and certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in both Radiography (R) and Computerized Tomography (CT). Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Major Duties

This position is located within the Colorado River Service Unit, PIHC, Parker Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to perform highly complex radiographic examinations through use of a Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner and Medical Imaging equipment (Direct Digital Imaging systems & DXA unit) in support of patient care. Will report to the Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.

Working independently, performs a variety of Digital diagnostic studies utilizing Computed Radiographic (CR) or Direct Digital Radiographic (DR), portable digital Computed/Direct Digital Radiographic and ancillary digital computer equipment in support of the clinic within the scope of the Outpatient department and walk-in clinics at the Colorado River Service Unit. Receives and schedules patients, explains methods of procedures, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment and makes exposures necessary for requested procedures. Recognizes and reports or initiates maintenance requests of malfunctioning or intermittently failing equipment in accordance with established protocol.

Participates in departmental QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control)programs and technique development programs. Participates in any or all required activities in support of the mission statement, performance contracts and Medical Imaging Program (Chapter

  1. Indian Health Services Manual). Keeps abreast of changes through annual review of the hospitals Safety, Infection Control, and Policies & Procedure Manuals. Attends and/or participates in all mandatory training as prescribed by hospital administration.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
