About This Position

The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System seeks a Dental Assistant to serve as a Fee Basis employee on an as-needed, intermittent basis. What is Fee Basis? Fee Basis appointments are temporary for professional and technical occupations under Title 38 of the U.S. Code, Section 7405(a)(2). These appointments are suitable only for work compensated per task or procedure, not time-based. Individuals under this authority are subject to standard pre-employment hiring processes.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for appointment to this position, all applicants must possess the following: Citizenship - You must be a citizen of the United States English Language Proficiency - Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Experience and Education - To fulfill this requirement, you must meet one of the following: Experience: Six months experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the work, or provides familiarity with the work OR, Education: Successful completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).OR, Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying.

Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part

75.

You must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in this regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and be certified as radiographers in their field. Provisions for Certification of Radiologic Competence: Successful completion of the Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.

OR

Successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinations developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry. OR, Successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD). Physical Requirements: Dental assistants must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, moving between rooms and workstations, though they may also sit for an hour or more during procedures. They need the stamina to stay physically active for several hours at a time, handling tasks that involve bending, squatting, and reaching. The job requires precise, repeated movements of the hands and fingers to handle delicate dental instruments and equipment.

Manual dexterity is crucial for tasks like preparing dental materials, operating equipment, taking X-rays, and assisting in procedures. Acute vision is necessary to observe patient responses, see fine details of dental materials, assess colors and shades, and monitor instruments. Additionally, sufficient auditory ability is necessary to communicate with patients and the dental care team.

The ability to lift 25 pounds is also required.

Eastern Oklahoma - Please watch to learn more about the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System- Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care Syste The request for an Fee Basis Dental Assistant will assist with outpatient visits, including duties such as: Seating patients Taking vitals Providing 4-handed dentistry with a licensed dentist Providing post-operative instructions Completing dental charting Entering return-to-clinic orders Dismissing the patient Work Schedule: As-needed, intermittent basis, with an anticipated 35-40 encounters per week, depending on need.
