About This Position

About the Position: This Custodian Worker Leader WL-3566-03 position is located at the Dunham US Army Health Clinic at Carlisle Barracks. Incumbent will be assigned to first shift 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veteran's preference eligible applicants available, non- preference applicants may be considered.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Custodial Worker Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common custodial, janitorial, and housekeeping activities within a large hospital setting. I am skilled in checking performance of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping services of all areas to include patient rooms, wards, clinics and common areas to ensure completion; maintaining a log or check sheet of work performed by staff. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes task in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT Must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, lifts moderately heavy objects (about 40 pounds). WORKING CONDITIONS Works indoors most of the time and outdoors occasionally. Exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning tasks described such as chapped hands or other irritation from working with strong cleaning agents. Possibility exists of serious disabling injury as a result of electrical shock from power cleaning equipment or from falling from scaffolds or ladders.

Major Duties

Serve as Work Leader over Custodial Worker and distributes and balances workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and ensure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
Instruct employees on specific tasks and job techniques and make written instructions, reference material and supplies available.
Give on-the-job training to employees as necessary to maintain skilled workforce and responds to employees' questions on procedures, policies, etc.
Monitor status of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from supervisor when problems arise such as backlogs that cannot be disposed of promptly.
Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs as well as disciplinary problems with employees and make suggestions to supervisor in these areas as requested.
Resolve simple, informal issues or complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor.
Perform the full range of custodial duties of which the following are typical. Maintains a specified orderly and clean following general instructions regarding the tasks to be performed.
Set up own schedule and sequence of tasks within the framework of a general schedule which states the required frequency of each task.
Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax and polish floors, using heavy industrial powered equipment. Wash walls using powered wall washing machine.
Maintain records of work completed and time expended as necessary.
