About This Position

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Security and Investigations Division, Criminal Investigations Branch. As a Criminal Investigator, you will perform a variety of duties including security assessments, monitoring case development, and coordinating assignments for investigations. The duties relate to internal investigations and inspections and encompass a variety of criminal or administrative investigations deemed appropriate by the Chief, Office of Security.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience for the GS-12, you must have one year (full 52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience conducting criminal and administrative investigations involving fraud, theft, or misuse of government resources.

Examples of such experience may include: Assisting investigations with federal, state and local law enforcement or investigative agencies, solving violations of law; OR Collecting, preserving, and evaluating physical and documentary evidence to support criminal or administrative investigations; OR Assisting with Interviewing subjects of criminal or administrative investigations to substantiate findings or conclusions. Medical Requirement: The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required.

Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters.

Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

Major Duties

As a Criminal Investigator (Special Agent), you will: Conduct, oversee, and coordinate investigations into highly technical, and sensitive matters of interregional and national dimensions, particularly as they relate to criminal currency mutilation and fraud. This includes solving violations of law relating to complex currency related fraud which may require law enforcement and/or civilian cooperation nationwide. Interview or interrogate suspects and witnesses; search for documentary evidence from federal, state and local law enforcement or investigative agencies, courts and other sources to substantiate findings or conclusions, examine records to detect possible links to an employee's conduct and trustworthiness, and prepare a Report of Investigation (ROI).

Interview subject of investigations, co-workers, present and former supervisor, either in government or private industry, and other individuals depending on the level of the investigation and type of pertinent information needed to resolve issues developed. Secure the confidence, good will and cooperation of witnesses and persons under investigation so that individuals will provide information and assistance. Ensure all persons involved in each investigation are treated fairly, impartially, and with dignity while protecting the individual's privacy and civil rights.

Conditions of Employment
