About This Position

Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Food and Beverage; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NBK Bangor - Catering and Conference Center.

Qualifications

Must be able to follow recipes and combine ingredients for plain or fancy salad and other cooked dishes. Skill to perform tasks with several steps and use judgment in the performance of sequential tasks. Concentration is required to serve uniform individual portions and to avoid distractions, such as when several people ask for different items at the same time. Simple arithmetic and the ability to read instructions is required. Working knowledge of common sanitation procedures to prevent contamination. Must be able to use simple kitchen equipment and use common kitchen utensils. Must know the operation of bake, holding ovens and pizza makers. Must be able to relate inventory levels to purchasing requirements; and understand food storage and sanitation requirements. Must be able to operate a cash register. Must be able to follow recipes and combine ingredients for pizza, salads and other menu items.

Major Duties

Performs a variety of tasks such as grilling or frying pancakes, hamburger, hot dogs, bacon, eggs, sausage, by watching while the items are cooking, turning as required; regulation temperature and removing when done. Measures and weighs ingredients according to recipes or as directed in the preparation of salads, desserts, juices, fruit trays, etc. Prepares toast, salads, salad dressing, and sandwiches. Prepares vegetables and fruits for serving according to instructions and / or recipes. Place cooked food in serving dishes in steam carts and food trucks. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment and work area. Keep refrigerators, grills, equipment and working area clean. May be required to collect money, operate a cash register and prepare necessary documentation for cash funds accountability. May assist in inventory taking. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Must be 18 years old or older. Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, constantly standing, walking, reaching and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds. Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required. Requires irregular working hours which may include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays. Incumbent must have or be able to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate.
