The Semester of Service Program offers students a volunteer project-based opportunity to support Federal missions, gaining hands-on experience & valuable career-ready skills. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution, & participation must be with the permission of the institution at which the student is enrolled.

Major Duties
This vacancy announcement will be open from May 15, 2026 to May 21, 2026 or when 25 applications have been received. The vacancy will close on whichever day the first of these conditions are met. If the application limit is reached on the same day the announcement opened, the open and close date will be the same.

Project Description: IO/PCA seeks a student assistant for a special project designed to increase the IO/PCA team's understanding of Congressional Member and Committee sentiment towards the United Nations and other international organizations. This project has two main components: 1) tracking Congressional hearings, and 2) data input and analysis to an IO/PCA-maintained Member Biography database.
The student would be asked to track relevant Congressional Committee websites for hearings with IO Bureau equities (i.e. on UN reform, fiscal responsibility, policies towards specific international organizations), watch the hearing, and provide a readout to the IO Bureau. The student would also be responsible for collating a backlog of one year of Congressional Member statements and data input into an established database. To do so, the student will research public statements from Members (i.e. press releases, public hearings, interviews, proposed legislation) on the United Nations and other international organizations, analyze the statements, and input to an IO/PCA-maintained database to create a comprehensive biography of Members' stances towards IO Bureau equities.
Periodically, the student may also be asked to update Committee rosters and membership, particularly if the semester falls over an election period.

Conditions of employment To participate in this Program, you must: Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S National studying in the U.S. Students studying abroad are ineligible for application. All remote work must be completed domestic within the United States. Be enrolled not less than half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution. Be in good academic standing as defined by your institution. Commit to volunteering 8 β 20 hours per week for a minimum of 90 days.
Complete all required onboarding documentation assigned by the Federal agency and your academic institution. Agree to volunteer.
This position is unpaid. No compensation, stipends, or hiring preference will be granted from this work.
You may use this volunteer experience to qualify for future jobs you choose to apply for. Agree to understanding volunteers are not Federal employees. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 scale.
Education
To qualify, you must be enrolled not less than half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution. You also must be in good academic standing as defined by your institution. Attach a copy of your transcripts to your application package for verification.
Prefer student be currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 scale. Students studying abroad are ineligible for application. All remote work must be completed domestic within the United States.
