Major Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO is searching for a Chief for Human Capital Management to support MD6 (NH-0801-04, GS-14/15 equivalent). Description: The Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), a key organization within the U.S. Space Force, leads the service in deep-dive analysis, modeling and simulation, and wargaming to produce cost-informed, operationally grounded Force Design guidance for the Chief of Space Operations. SWAC integrates emerging and revolutionary capabilities to shape future concepts of operations, force-sizing options, and strategic investments that drive requirements, resources, policy, and enterprise-level strategy across the Space Force. As a Space Defense and Protection Engineer, you will serve as the organization's senior technical authority, guiding a team of highly experienced scientists and engineers in evaluating complex Space Force Designs. Your expertise in systems engineering, space systems development, and acquisition will influence multiple phases of the development lifecycle, ensuring that future space architectures are resilient, data-driven, and aligned with national defense priorities. In this role, you will serve as the Ground Data Network (GDN) Division Chief-one of the Space Force's senior leaders for ground data network force design, integration, and resource advocacy. You will lead major analytic studies, architect data-mobility solutions across military, commercial, and allied networks, and drive innovation in cloud, AI, and advanced data-processing architectures. The Division Chief shapes enterprise-level decisions by communicating analytic findings to senior DoD and interagency partners, directing distributed technical teams, and managing resources to ensure mission-critical outcomes. This position blends strategic leadership with deep technical mastery, offering the opportunity to influence the future of Spectrum Warfare Program capabilities and the broader Space Force enterprise Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities: 1. Mastery of a wide range of multidisciplinary professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services. 2. Knowledge of military ground networking and data movement capabilities and applications to include satellite C2 and mission data. 3. Expert knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to sustainment, modification, logistics, and production management principles, concepts, policies, and systems to execute significant projects which represent an important segment of the agency's operating program. 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of planning/program management; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of engineering disciplines used in support of sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs. 5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches; to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes; and to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, form conclusions, and devise and recommend solutions to problems. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
