About This Position

The Chief of Graduate Professional Education coordinates and aligns Air University's curricula across all graduate programs. This role advises schools and programs on curriculum development and supports academic program reviews. Key duties include advising on instructional design, curriculum delivery, instructional methodologies, briefing leaders on findings, drafting policy/guidance, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to sustain high-quality, policy-compliant, accredited curriculum.

Qualifications

Knowledge of higher education principles and practices related to curriculum development, instructional design, academic program review. Knowledge of regional accreditation requirements and practices. Knowledge of Joint accreditation requirements and practices.

Knowledge of university Student Information Systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS). Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems concerning efficiency and effectiveness in academic programs. Skill in communicating complex information, both orally and in writing, including the development and presentation of executive-level reports, briefings, and policy guidance.

Ability to manage complex processes such as program reviews, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve institutional objectives.

Major Duties

Graduate Curriculum Oversight: Apply expert knowledge, including an understanding of the Student Information System (SIS), Learning Management System (LMS), instructional system design (ISD) best practices, and how emerging technologies shape learning experiences in AU graduate curriculum planning/design. Apply expert knowledge in innovative teaching techniques to shape instructional policy across Air University's graduate programs. Analyze curricula and present findings to Air University (AU) leadership.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Program Review: Support Air University's academic program review process, focusing on instructional system design (ISD) best practices to identify programs' strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for improvement. The position involves developing reports, communicating timelines and deliverables to university schools and centers, and producing executive-level briefings for senior leadership.

Additionally, this role assists schools in addressing accreditation issues and developing systems for the continuous review and enhancement of educational programs. Accreditation Compliance: Provide senior leaders with expert interpretation and recommendations on graduate program compliance with Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), Air Force (USAF), and Air University (AU) policies. Key responsibilities include conducting thorough research and analysis of these directives and integrating them into AU's policy framework.

Additionally, develop and coordinate policies and instructions to meet the evolving educational needs of Air University's academic programs by collaborating with multiple stakeholders to draft and implement new regulations.

Education

Master's degree is required. The degree should be from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution ideally include curriculum and instructional development, management, academic leadership or education or a demonstrated job/career/academic professional experience for consideration as equivalent in those areas. PhD or other appropriate terminal degree is preferred.

The position will be an initial three-year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms.
