Major Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado is searching for a Chief Engineer (NH-0801-03, GS 12/13 equivalent). Description: Join our team as a Chief Engineer and become a key player in pioneering, developing, and delivering sustainable Space Domain Awareness joint warfighting capabilities.
You will be instrumental in defending the nation and its allies by directing and supporting sustainment programs for critical radars, optical sensors, software, and platforms. As a Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for a broad range of multidisciplinary engineering, with a focus on managing sustainment issues, system enhancements, and test and evaluation efforts for assigned programs. Applying your expert knowledge, you will solve complex problems, analyze project findings, and guide the work of your team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, forward-thinking individual who is passionate about making a difference in Space Domain Awareness across a diverse range of technical systems. The ideal candidate is an engineer with significant hands-on experience in Test and Evaluation (T&E) for space sustainment programs within the aerospace or defense sector. This individual has a proven ability to plan, organize, and execute complex, multidisciplinary engineering test projects from start to finish.
Adept at applying systems engineering principles throughout the test lifecycle, they excel at analyzing test data to manage program risk and assess system reliability and readiness. A key part of this role involves authoring detailed technical documentation-such as test plans and engineering reports-and effectively presenting technical findings to peers and leadership. Grounded in a deep knowledge of advanced engineering theories and relevant industry standards, the candidate must also be capable of obtaining and maintaining the required security clearance.
Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced multidisciplinary engineering theories and concepts to test and evaluation activities and advisory services.
- Knowledge of advanced system/item development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of test activities.
- Knowledge of the principles of system engineering and program management to ensure system requirements, interfaces, capabilities, and program factors are considered in planning, monitoring, and reviewing tests and test results.
- Knowledge of security guidelines, safety issues, and relevant government and industry standards, regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Skill in negotiating and/or defending test results, test program concepts, and in communicating clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to execute projects and/or studies within established financial and/or time constraints; together, assemble, analyze facts, form conclusions, devise and recommend solutions to problems; and work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
