About This Position
Under the Mandatory court review of guardianships, D.C. Code ยง 21-2045.01, within the three (3) year period after the appointment of a guardian and withing every three (3) year period thereafter in which a guardian remains appointed, the court shall appoint a case reviewer, who shall be a social worker licensed in the District of Columbia, to investigate the continued need for the guardian.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: In good standing and demonstrate knowledge of guardianship laws, the needs of aging, disable and incapacitated populations. Experience in utilizing clinical social work or capacity assessments tools to make a professional judgement and recommendations for action. Experience meeting with individuals and assuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Major Duties
The Case Reviewer will: Review the court record of the ward. Perform a face-to-face interview with the ward. Review the ward's medical record. Consultation with collateral sources such as the guardian, medical professionals, and family members.
Complete and submit a comprehensive report detailing whether guardianship should be continued, modified or terminated. The case reviewer's report shall include: an updated medical or psychological report or statement by a licensed professional that addresses the current capacity of the ward; a statement setting forth the ward's expressed preferences regarding the continued scope and duration of the ward's guardianship, including his or her preferences, the case reviewer shall note that the ward is unable or unwilling to do so; any statements made by a ward or any other interested party requesting continuation, modification, or termination of the ward's guardianship and, the case reviewer's opinion as to whether the operative guardianship order is the least restrictive guardianship order that is appropriate for the ward and the basis for that opinion.

Additional Information
COMPENSATION: $100 per hour. Any person appointed to this position must petition the court for compensation for services rendered in accordance with Superior Court Rule โ Probate Division 322. Compensation will be paid from the estate of the ward or, if not available, from a fund established by the District of Columbia.
