About This Position

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is seeking a Canteen Chief/Registered Dietitian for our Martinez, CA location. This position will be responsible for all areas of the canteen's operations, including the cafe, retail store, vending sales, merchandise accountability, and overall canteen management. The Canteen Chief will also oversee the administration of the inpatient dining program, providing 3 meals a day, 365 days a year, to the Veteran patients of the Martinez VA Medical Center.

Qualifications

Requires current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN), with a minimum of 1 year of experience. Verification of credentials must be provided. Able to demonstrate successful operating accomplishments and possess excellent leadership and managerial skills. Skill in applying nutritional knowledge to ensure menus meet nutrition standards. Ability to utilize Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement, and coordinate best practices and to ensure compliance. A proven leader who can effectively plan, organize, delegate, direct, control, and review activities and performance. Capacity to interpret data and translate insights into actionable decisions.

Major Duties

Primary Duties include: Serving as a professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals. Responsible for a full range of personnel management, administrative controls, and all processes related to the canteen and patient dining operations. Responsible for attaining financial goals and implementing program objectives as established by VCSCO and the Region Director. Coordinating policies and procedures with clinical nutrition management, nursing, and other services as applicable. Monitoring compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures while overseeing the technology used for meal production, meal service, and temperature control. Completing internal audits of food service and production, as well as routine kitchen inspections. Implement and manage any plan to address and resolve deficiencies. Evaluating food operations to ensure proper allocation of resources and ensuring budgetary requirements are met. - Collaborating with the clinical nutrition staff, bridging the work of Nutrition Food Services (NFS) with the nutritional care plans for Veterans. - Managing VHA-supported software programs and/or commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) to support the effective management of food operations and patient meal services. Developing and maintaining training and reference materials for the nutrition and food service staff. Coordinating all aspects of training related to computer systems, menus, and informatics for NFS employees.
