About This Position

The incumbent serves as the Maintenance Officer and Fleet Technician for over 90 vehicles in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Executive Services Directorate (ESD) Pentagon Services Division (PSD), Pentagon Motor Pool (PMP) Operations Cell. Performs preventive maintenance / management of the fleet, conducts minor repair work and coordinates major repairs with the dealership on all General Service Administrative (GSA) and leased vehicles assigned to the Pentagon Motor Pool (PMP).

Qualifications

Employment Physical (continued): The incumbent is required to pass a pre-employment physical examination, as well as subsequent mandatory physical examinations every two years within 90 days of the expiration date, scheduled through the Pentagon Motor Pool with the employer's preferred clinic. The employee will be permitted to use their own physicians if the employer is unable to schedule the appointment within 90 days of expiration. For qualifications determinations, it is recommended that applicants include their months and hours worked per week for each employment listed on their resume. Your background must demonstrate a full range of performing the duties of an Automotive Worker, WG-5823-09, maintaining vehicle safety and troubleshooting problems. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Ability to Inspect Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Work entails moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, bending, and reaching to access vehicle components and perform adjustments, particularly in preventive maintenance and repair tasks. Fleet management duties typically involve less physical effort, focusing more on administrative and coordination tasks, although some on-site inspections and coordination efforts may require moderate physical exertion. Similarly, safety and quality inspections may involve moderate physical effort during vehicle assessments and road testing, as well as when handling hazardous materials. While the level of physical effort varies across duties, all sections require tasks that demand a degree of physical exertion, although to varying degrees. WORKING CONDITIONS: Involves a combination of indoor and outdoor environments. May work in garage or workshop settings, offering some protection from the elements, but may also be exposed to outdoor conditions during inspections or repairs. Fleet management duties primarily take place in office settings with controlled temperatures, although on-site inspections of fleet vehicles may necessitate exposure to outdoor conditions. Safety and quality inspections entail a blend of indoor and outdoor work, with inspections conducted in garage settings or outdoors, potentially exposing individuals to varying weather conditions. Additionally, handling hazardous materials requires adherence to safety protocols and may involve work in designated areas with appropriate ventilation and safety equipment, irrespective of the specific duty section. ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission.. Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Performing a wide range of preventive maintenance services and minor repair work, which includes assessing and deciding on necessary repairs. Replacing minor components and coordinates major repairs with dealerships. Maintaining, reviewing, and updating the maintenance asset availability report (AAR) Excel spreadsheet. Developing, interpreting, and communicating technical guidance based on regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures related to fleet management. Providing advice to the Deputy for Logistics on matters concerning motor vehicle control and maintenance. Conducting thorough safety and quality inspections on vehicles, carefully assessing various components including wheels, tires, brakes, lights, fluids, and more to ensure optimal functionality and safety. Demonstrating expertise in handling hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with established regulations, ensuring proper storage and use of materials.
