About This Position
This position is located at Fort Carson, Colorado. Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee: First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Available to CYS Regular and FLEX (working a minimum of 15 hours). Incentives and Bonuses Incentives and bonuses will not be paid.
Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following: A bachelor's degree or higher which included a major course of study or at least 24 semester hours in physical education OR All of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level: 1. At least one year of experience assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive sports and fitness or physical education program which included children and youth. This experience may have been gained in a school/college, community, institutional, or recreational setting. 2. Experience coaching child/youth sports or in training coaches in accordance with nationally-recognized (i.e., NAYS, NYS, NYSCA)requirements. 3. Experience in the delivery of or demonstrated knowledge in the requirements for age-appropriate health and fitness programs for children/youth. 4. Experience working with schools, community organizations, or other partnering organizations to coordinate initiatives for children/youth. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Recommended highly-qualifying In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, highly-qualified candidates will possess: A bachelor's degree or higher which included a major course of study or at least 24 semester hours in coursework directly related to children or youth (i.e., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology, etc.) OR at least two years of experience directing or assisting in the delivery of a comprehensive sports and fitness or physical education program which included children and youth. The experience and knowledge listed above MUST be reflected on your resume to be considered a highly preferred candidate. Applicants meeting the highly preferred criteria position will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.
Major Duties
Works in a Child and Youth Services (CYS) Sports and Fitness program, assists in the management and delivery of CYS Sports and Fitness initiatives (team sports, individual sports, fitness and health, outreach, motor skills activities etc.).
Applies professional knowledge to assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision, of a comprehensive program that promotes positive growth and development of children and youth.
Assists in the development of a broad program of recruitment, training and certification, and management of volunteer coaches and officials for various sports.
Supervises and evaluates assigned staff based on established performance standards. Provides appropriate professional recognition and/or disciplinary action.
Works cooperatively with other managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for children and youth.
