About This Position
THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Windsor Locks, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel, assigned to the AASF of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.
Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Experience demonstrating the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation and adjustment of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies.
Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions. Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.
Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS.
Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-5 through E-8 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program.
Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment.
This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources.
NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: You will be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.

Major Duties
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Responsibilities include detailed technical oversight of individual aircraft's level of mission capabilities and projection of maintenance requirements to maintain individual aircraft operational readiness. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. Requests maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints.
Oversees ground movement of aircraft. Ensures Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft. Clears Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces, such as rotor heads, landing gear, explosive munitions, weapons, engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, fast moving main gear box devices, rotating shafts, cartridge actuating devices, electrical voltage, fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels, solvents, lubricants, paints and dusts, sharp edges, confined spaces. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds.
Education
No substitution of education for specialized experience.

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
