About This Position

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (T32), PD# D1525000 and is part of the RI 143d AMXS. Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. If the selected applicant does not qualify for the full potential grade (WG-12), he or she may be brought on in the Developmental grade of WG-08, PD# D1400000 or WG-10, PD# D1366000.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: A1C (E-3) - TSgt (E-6) Your rank MUST be included somewhere within your resume. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENTS: For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required. Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements.

Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible AFSC/MOS per statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must have experience in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 to include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Must have experience performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Must have experience in coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft.

Major Duties

Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Controls and performs work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Assigns maintenance and repair functions to subordinate mechanics.

Coordinates with production control to direct short notice availability of the aircraft to accomplish work on delayed discrepancies and other scheduled maintenance to meet mission requirements. Observes and inspects performance and work procedures to ensure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions.

Performs or assists in aircrew debriefing when required. Due to the nature of operations tempo, must make decisions on a wide range of matters that may involve changes to past precedents to ensure completion of the mission. Clears Red X symbols on aircraft forms, accomplishes or directs engine power runs, may taxi aircraft in accordance with applicable directives.

Plans, develops and conducts training during the technician work week to a multi facet workforce comprised of from 3 to 8 assigned military positions. Conducts and certifies Cross Utilization Training (CUT) of non WG-88XX series Aircraft Mechanics to meet mission requirements. Selects the appropriate instructional method, utilizing either formalized classroom or practical on-the-job method of instruction.

Evaluates and certifies effectiveness of training by observation as the trainee performs the task(s). Determines experience and skill level of assigned personnel. Maintains Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP) for assigned members.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics): - Providing auxiliary power unit and fireguard support, serving as an alternate refueler, assisting with fuel dispensing or/and performing aircraft repair duties on and off the flight line. - Coordinating with Flight Operations and Aircraft Maintenance sections, checking aircraft at end of day, inventorying aircraft and ensuring aircraft security are not fully discussed in this evaluation because they are judged to be of lower grade and therefore not grade impacting. - Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of systems, assemblies, and surfaces is required. - Knowledge to determine when new surfaces, assemblies, and systems should be installed, or repaired through replacement of new parts and components. - Knowledge of types and extent of adjustments and alignments required. Skill in the removal, replacement and adjustment of various systems assemblies, and surfaces or any of their components and parts. -Skill in connecting, meshing and adjusting surfaces, assemblies, and systems with one another. -Knowledge and skill to use precision test equipment, technical data, schematics, wiring diagrams, mathematical formulas, common hand tools, jigs, templates, and various gauges. - Technical expert and authority in ensuring that very complex military aircraft are prepared to carry out the day to day training mission, as well as the worldwide mobility mission as part of the Air Force and its Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) structure -Understands the technical theory and operational characteristics, not only of the airframe, but of mission systems peculiar to the unit aircraft and assigned mission -Knows the theory and operation of aircraft systems to be able to troubleshoot malfunctions and problems, and determine the extent of repairs and involvement of others in expediting return to combat ready status. - Skill and knowledge to resolve problems and devise solutions when aircraft are not at home station, or at allocation where the full complement of support equipment, supplies, parts, tools, and maintenance personnel are available.

Additional Information

Persons appointed with indefinite status may be separated when their services are no longer needed. Should the need for the indefinite time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Indefinite Appointment could be converted to permanent action without further competition. Candidate may still be required to successfully complete a trial period.
