About This Position

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, Position Description Number D1410000 and is part of the ME 101st Maintenance Squadron, National Guard.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E6-E7 Compatible Military Assignments: 2A5X4 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which demonstrates the candidate's skill in and knowledge of the work; ability to lead others, to organize tools and materials for them; and to interpret technical orders, regulations and procedures. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have twenty-four (24) months experience, education, and/or training which required the applicant to acquire and apply each of the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.

Major Duties

This position is located in an Air National Guard aircraft maintenance inspection organization. The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more journeyman Aircraft Mechanics, WG-8852-10, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel. In addition, performs journeyman duties involving the inspection, repair, modification, and servicing of aircraft systems, components, and assemblies for both on- and off-aircraft. (1) On a regular and recurring basis, leads three or more aircraft mechanics, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel performing work in the inspection docks. (2) Monitors the work of assigned personnel, sets the pace, passes along assignments, and assures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available.

Works along with aircraft mechanics and specialist personnel performing journeyman work as required. (3) Insures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions, appropriate technical orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.

Ensures that safety, housekeeping, security and other environmental rules are followed. (4) Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides functional planning for the inspection docks. On a daily basis, recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of functional requirements. (5) Performs other duties as assigned.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics): Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of aircraft systems and assemblies. Knowledge in determining when new assemblies and/or systems should be installed, or repairs made through replacement with new parts or components. Knowledge of the types and extent of mechanical adjustments and alignments.

Skill in removing, replacing, and adjusting various systems and assemblies, as well as associated components and parts. Knowledge and skill in using technical data, schematics, common hand tools, jigs, templates, and gauges.
