About This Position

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: E3 through E8 COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENTS: 15 SERIES GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 or WU-10 grade level, positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Must have three years experience and/or appropriate training in such functions as troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and modifying aircraft, aircraft installed equipment and related ground support equipment.

Knowledge or skill for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Experience or knowledge coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Thorough knowledge to serve as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.

Knowledge of the startup, operation, shutdown, and emergency procedures for the systems and the aircraft; symptoms of normal and abnormal operation; the inter-relationships between operating systems; and activity safety procedures in order to prevent damage to equipment or injury to personnel. Sufficient knowledge of the work of associated trades such as sheet metal, painting, aircraft electrical, electronics, and aircraft engine work to determine when work should be assigned to specialized support shops, be able to calculate time and work space required in order to coordinate the work of other mechanics, and determine when the work is properly done and signed off so that the aircraft is airworthy FWS POSITIONS ONLY: Specialized Experience Requirements for NGB Federal Wage System Positions for claiming civilian job experience: Creditable experience must have been performed at least 30 consecutive days and be properly documented. Experience in the same line of work can only be credited on the basis of a regular 40-hour workweek.

Major Duties

Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft.

Requests maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints.

Oversees ground movement of aircraft.

Ensures Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft.

Clears Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others.

Plans, develops and conducts proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.

Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises.

Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental, and housekeeping regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.
