About This Position
As an FBI IT Professional, your job is to ensure our law enforcement systems, as well as the entire cyberspace within which we work, are protected. This means applying your knowledge of computer technology, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and more to safeguard information across the FBI, as well as our domestic and international law enforcement partners
Qualifications
GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows: Utilized programming or scripting languages, such as Python or Node.js, to automate tasks or improve process efficiencies. Processed and cleansed information in databases to better create visualizations and data models.
Maintained AI tools and platforms such as generative AI models or Large Language Models (LLMs). Communicated technical concepts or issues with technical stakeholders. GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-9 grade level.
SE is defined as follows: Built full-stack AI applications to enhance databases, Application Program Interfaces (API), back-end development, or cloud architecture. Processed and cleansed information in databases to better create visualizations and data models. Integrated and maintained AI tools and platforms such as generative AI models or Large Language Model (LLMs) systems into pre-existing networks.
Communicated technical concepts or issues with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desired Skills Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants. Desired Skills are: Knowledge of multiple programing languages such as Python, R, C++, and Java.
Experience with API development and testing tools such as Fast API framework and ReadyAPI. Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) in cloud environments. Experience working with AI models as a Code Assistant such as Anthropic Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
Experience with cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. Experience processing data with SQL and NoSQL databases. Knowledge of operational AI concepts such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agentic AI.
Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, model versioning (MLflow), and real-time inference.
Major Duties
Leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze enterprise data sets and develop solutions to complex business challenges. Conduct preliminary analysis of current systems to determine the feasibility of new or automated IT to resolve issues. Research, Develop, and implement AI technologies to meet emerging business and technology needs across the division..
Provide technical advice to executive level managers based on developed expertise in the field of IT. Develop application software and provide post-implementation support including troubleshooting and error resolution with program execution. Coordinate cross agency AI projects involving digital transformation, data platforms, and secure computing infrastructures.
Conditions of Employment
Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance. Some travel may be required.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: Degrees must be in one of the following fields: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B.
OR
J.D., if related. GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D.
OR
equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

Additional Information
To attract and retain highly qualified candidates, selectees may be eligible for a recruitment incentive of up to 20% or, for eligible current federal employees, a relocation incentive of up to 15%. Eligibility for a relocation incentive requires proof of a change in residence and an assignment at a worksite in a different geographic area greater than or equal to 50 miles from the prior worksite. Employees must sign a written service agreement completing a specified period of employment with the FBI at the new duty station.
Recruitment and relocation incentives cannot be combined. The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ.
