About This Position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position serves as a member of the Community Care Consult team working collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Important interfaces and collaborations with larger health care system providers including VA and Community specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community based programs.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements for employment listed above, the following experience criteria must be met for the Advanced Medical Support Assistant, GS-6. Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level.

Major Duties

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) serves the North Florida/South Georgia VHA in the Community Care service line. The Advanced MSA performs the following duties to include, but are not limited to: The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Communicates with Community Care providers to ensure they accept VA patients and payments. Prepares any required pre-appointment documents.

Schedules the appropriate level of care. Enters and edits Community Care program authorizations in the Fee Basis Computer System. Schedules community clinic appointment using VistA scheduling options.

Complete verification with Community providers. Contacts community Provider/Veteran to coordinate specialty appointment. Schedule/reschedule the obtained appointment. Submit and verify authorization is received.

Document actions taken in the CTB (Consult Toolbox) using CTM/CPRS. Create patient appointment letters. Fold letters and seal envelopes to send to Veterans. Notifying Veteran of appointment details in various communication.

Request supporting medical documentation from community providers to confirm care was rendered. Review community medical documentation for accuracy, quality, and consult closure.
